Vauxhall Car Insurance groups

If you’re looking for insurance on a Vauxhall, you’ll be pleased to know that we insure plenty of Vauxhall models. And to make life easier for you, we’ve put together a list of insurance groups for the most popular ones. Unfortunately, we can’t mention every Vauxhall we insure – otherwise we’d be here for eternity! But if your car isn’t on the list, it doesn’t mean to say we won’t insure it.

Vauxhall Corsa Insurance Group

If you’re looking for insurance for a Vauxhall Corsa, then you’ve come to the right place! The Vauxhall Corsa is a small car that’s designed for city life. It comes in three-door or five-door versions, so it’s suitable if you have children that you need to get in and out of the car. The newer models come with lots of add-on products, like alloy wheels and digital radio. But these can sometimes push your car into a higher insurance group.

Although the Corsa is meant for city life, the range also includes models with more powerful engines. These are great for those who travel long distances regularly. But, like the add-on products, this can affect the cost of your Vauxhall car insurance quote.

Please be aware this is a guide only, insurers may group these cars differently.

Model Engine Size Insurance Group
Corsa Hatchback (93–00) 1.0–1.7 5–21
Corsa Hatchback (00–04) 1.0–1.8 3–19
Corsa Hatchback (03–06) 1.0–1.8 2–19
Corsa VXR (07–14) 1.6 30–34
Corsa Hatchback (06–14) 1.0–1.7 1–26
Corsa VXR (15 onwards) 1.6T 30
Corsa Hatchback (14 onwards) 1.2-1.4 2-20

Vauxhall Astra Insurance Groups

Are you after insurance on a Vauxhall Astra? Then we can help. The Vauxhall Astra is slightly larger than the Corsa, and comes as a compact hatchback that’s suitable for city life. The newer ranges include five-door and estate car versions, along with options for diesel and petrol engines.

There's a choice of eight engines across the range. Five petrol engines, which start at 1.0-litre and top off at 1.6-litre. This big engine model is only available with the highest trims, so it will sit in higher insurance groups. The diesel engine range offers only turbodiesel 1.6L engines, but in three different versions, with power ranging from 110 to 160PS.

Manual is standard across the range, with either five or six speeds. You can only get an automatic gearbox with the more powerful models. Most Astra models sit at the lower end of the insurance groups and climb mid-range with the higher trims and more powerful engines.

Astra Hatchback (09–15) 1.3–2.0 7–26

Vauxhall Zafira Insurance Groups

For those looking for insurance on a Vauxhall Zafira, then you’ll be pleased to know that we can help. The Vauxhall Zafira is an entry-level people carrier that’s practical and fuel-efficient. It’s great for urban parking, with light steering and a front camera. The good news is that these features could put your car into a lower, more affordable insurance group.

Because it’s a people carrier, the Zafira is great if you have kids. What’s more, it has more powerful engines than other Vauxhalls. The range includes diesel and petrol versions, and an automatic gearbox is available if you choose the 2.0-litre diesel or the turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol version. But do think about the engine type as more powerful engines can cause your Vauxhall insurance costs to increase.

Please be aware this is a guide only, insurers may group these cars differently.

Model Engine Size Insurance Group
Zafira (99–05) 1.6–2.2 11–28
Zafira VXR (05–10) 2.0 30

Zafira Tourer (12-onwards) 2.0 20–22

Vauxhall Adam Insurance Groups

Do you need car insurance for a Vauxhall Adam? Then let us help. The Vauxhall Adam is a premium three-door city car. It offers the ultimate in personalisation – with 30,000 different add-on combos available. Just remember though, add-ons that enhance your safety and security, like parking sensors, may lower your insurance costs. Those that enhance the attractiveness, performance or tech features of the car will push up your premium. Adam engines are typically small, ranging from 1.0-litre to 1.4-litre. This helps keep the Adam lower down in the insurance groups.

Please be aware this is a guide only, insurers may group these cars differently.

Model Engine Size Insurance Group
Adam Rocks (14 onwards) 1.0–1.4 2–15
Adam (12 onwards) 1.0–1.4 2–15

Vauxhall Insignia Insurance Groups

Have you got a Vauxhall Insignia? What about insurance? The Insignia comes as an estate or a five-door hatchback and is noticeably bigger than some of Vauxhall’s other models. The Insignia has a range of add-on products available, such as sunroof and cruise control. However, these could push your car into a higher, more expensive insurance group.

The Insignia comes with four engine types, including diesel and petrol. And, like the other Vauxhalls, the engine power is likely to affect your Vauxhall insurance cost.

About Vauxhall

The origins of Vauxhall

Do you know much about the history of Vauxhall? Well, it was founded in Vauxhall, London (of course), in 1857 by Scottish engineer Alex Wilson. Back then it manufactured pumps and marine engines, and was originally called Alex Wilson and Company. In 1903, it changed its name to Vauxhall to match the launch of its first motorcar. Its next major model was the C10, which launched in 1910, and known as the UK’s first sports car.

Over the next few years, Vauxhall released new models. Then in 1925, General Motors bought the company for a whopping $2.5 million! Following this, Vauxhall focused mainly on luxury cars, but during WWII it manufactured three models of the Churchill tank to support the war effort.

Becoming a family brand

So when did Vauxhall become the family brand that we all know and love today? Well, after WWII, Vauxhall moved its focus away from luxury cars and became a mass-market brand for everyday people. It released several family-type cars, like the Victor, which became Britain’s most exported car at the time. The Astra is another well-known family car, and has been used by UK police.

Other popular models include the Corsa, Nova and Insigna. These models have kept Vauxhall as the UK’s second largest car manufacturer for two decades. In 2017, Vauxhall and Opel were sold to PSA by GM.

The Vauxhall logo

Do you know what’s featured on the Vauxhall logo? It’s a griffin–taken from the coat of arms of Fulk le Breant (a mercenary Anglo-Norman soldier). Fulk built a house in London called Fulk’s hall, which then became Vauxhall. The company wanted to celebrate its ties with the local area, so it adopted the emblem and it has been on Vauxhall cars ever since!
