The latest hatchback (15 onwards) comes in several trims – from the entry level S all the way up to the sporty Monte Carlo, which comes with an electric sunroof and sports seats. Like most cars, performance and insurance groups vary due to the differences in engine size and built-in extras.

Also in the range is the Fabia Estate, a practical family car that focuses on safety. Some even include cutting-edge safety technology, such as a driver fatigue warning system. Safety features like these can definitely help when it comes to getting a cheaper car insurance quote.

The sportier trims rarely go below 2.0-litre. Other trim levels – like the SE Business – include sat-nav and cruise control as standard. Techy options will push your insurance quote higher as these features are more complex and cost more to repair.

About Skoda

Early Beginnings

Did you know that Skoda actually started out as a bicycle brand? The company was founded in 1895 in the Czech Republic, and known back then as Laurin & Klement. By 1899, the company began producing motorbikes, with the first 150 being sent to London. In 1925, Laurin & Klement was acquired by Skoda Works. Then in the year 2000, it became part of the Volkswagen (VW) Group.

First Car

The first car that Skoda produced was the Voiturette A back in 1905 – making the brand one of the oldest automotive brands in the world. Since then, Skoda has grown steadily, having produced numerous cars and trucks.

Present Day

Everyone’s heard of Skoda, right? Well, it’s a household name! Its most popular models include the Citigo, Fabia, Superb, and the Yeti. Since being bought out by VW, the brand has become more upmarket, with global sales of 1.3 million in 2016. And if that’s not impressive enough, some Skoda models have even outsold VW’s signature vehicles.
