Workers complain about travel time

Back

Participants in a survey on travelling to work said being stuck in traffic was their biggest complaint.

Travel-to-work times would reduce with fewer cars during office rush hours and road safety would improve, resulting in lower car insurance premiums. But around 46 per cent of the 1,970 adults polled said they wouldn't be allowed to work from home or be given flexible work hours.

Nearly a quarter said the time they wasted in their vehicle could be used more productively, according to the survey by Citrix Online.

As many as 62 per cent said they wanted to reduce the time they spent commuting to and from work.

The biggest complaint about travelling to work was being stuck in traffic, followed by poor public transport, travelling in the dark and the cost of travel.

Commuters would also spend the lost time indulging in recreation or romance, with 31 per cent of workers saying they would exercise more if their travel-to-work times reduced.

As many as 16 per cent said they would spice up their love lives and 35 per cent would spend more time with their family.
