Women care about their cars too

Back

The stereotype that only men are interested in cars isn't true, according to a new poll which proves women are just as clued-up on motors as men.

In the poll by car insurance company Diamond, 44 per cent of women said they discussed cars with their friends, 64 per cent said they watched Top Gear and a massive 73 per cent said they knew how to check the oil and water levels and tyre pressure of their cars.

Results also showed that contrary to popular belief, only 3 per cent of the women chose their cars because they liked the colour, with the majority opting for economical vehicles that came at a good price.

And while 8 per cent admitted they kept make-up in their glove compartment, almost double that number (15 per cent) said they kept a torch in there, and 12 per cent said they had a road map.

Spokeswoman Sian Lewis said: "Our research shows many of the stereotypes you hear about women drivers are very much outdated and untrue.

Today's generation of women drivers keep up to date with the motoring world, make informed motoring choices and take efforts to look after their wheels."
