Britons looking for car insurance like to hunt around for a bargain, according to a research.
A survey by Fairinvestment.co.uk found 57% thought price was most important to them.
The level of cover came a poor second with only 19% making it their priority when buying car insurance.
The research also found 5% were looking for a courtesy car to be supplied in emergencies.
Breakdown cover, a discounted rate for partners, a low excess and a protected no claims bonus all came in at 2%.
Surprisingly, no-one surveyed saw cover for driving other cars or no claims discounts as a crucial factor, despite the fact that a maximum no claims bonus could save drivers a considerable amount of money.
A Fairinvestment.co.uk spokesman said: "Motorists should be careful choosing their car insurance by price alone, the cheapest car insurance is not always the best and there are other aspects to be taken into consideration".
"I would advise anybody shopping for car insurance to compare deals not just on price but also policy features, some of which may be outlined in the small print."
