The 150,000 racegoers expected to head to the Aintree Festival are being urged to follow police travel advice to minimise traffic jams.
The Grand National event usually causes significant traffic congestion in north Liverpool and travellers have been advised to use public transport if they can.
Merseyside Police is working closely with Aintree Racecourse bosses to make sure the public know what restrictions will be in place and their options for alternative travel.
A free park and ride is being set up on Knowsley Industrial Park, off the roundabout at Moorgate Road and County Road, with regular buses to the course.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Racegoers who are travelling by car are advised to share a vehicle where possible. Leave plenty of time to get to the racecourse and into the event for the start of the racing programme each day. Parking facilities close to the course are severely limited and there is an extensive `no waiting` area around it. Traffic will be strictly controlled and enforcement carried out in line with the security operation and taking nearby residents into account," he said.
