An insurance firm could be facing a repair bill of £300,000 for a supercar which crashed in Scotland.

The Pagani Zonda S, which cost £528,000, crashed when it spun out of control on a narrow country road near Aberdeen.

It hit a telegraph pole before careering through a fence.

A professional driver had taken the car out which boasts speeds of 220mph.

The car was made in Modena in Italy and the insurance company have returned it to its home for repair work.

The final bill could be more than £300,000 once all the repairs are completed, a spokesman for the car insurance provider said.

The firm said it is thought to be one of the highest ever pay-outs in the UK.

A spokesman said: "This is the biggest insurance pay-out we have had for repairs to a private car in the UK. This is out of the ordinary for an insurer."

The insurance claim was lodged by the test driver, not the owner of the car.
