RM Auctions has celebrated its 30th anniversary with a record-breaking year, generating more than $190 million (£117 million) through its sales.
As many as 1,450 cars went under the hammer across four countries in 2009, one of which set a world record for the most expensive car ever sold at auction.
The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa s/n 0714TR was bought for $12.4 million (£7.6 million) at the Ferrari: Leggenda e Passione event in Maranello. Details of the car insurance premium needed to drive it remained unclear.
Models of Jaguar C-Type and Aston Martin DB2 also set new records for the classic car auction firm, while sales this year witnessed a total of 10 vehicles being sold for more than a million dollars each.
Ian Kelleher, the company's president and chief operating officer, said: "The market for 'quality' motor cars - exceptional, rare examples with important provenance and documentation - remains stable, with outstanding cars continuing to attract great prices at auction."
RM Auctions is planning an equally productive 2010, scheduling events in the UK, France and the US.
