Almost one in 10 drivers say they love their car as much as their family, a new poll has found.
While 33 per cent of people admitted they were “very fond” of their car, 9 per cent said that they loved their vehicle as much as those waiting for them at home, car-finding company Carmony.co.uk discovered.
Giving cars a pet name was popular with 20 per cent of the 1,271 people polled, and 23 per cent said they also talked to their cars.
The survey showed that 44 per cent have had sex in a car, 21 per cent take up two spaces in car parks to protect their motor and 4 per cent cover garage walls with carpet or something similar to prevent scratches.
Remarkably, 3 per cent even admitted to kissing their cars, and others owned up to hugging the bonnet and stroking the dashboard - which Carmony.co.uk marketing director Paul Coleman “could be perceived as a step too far".
He added: "After a house, a car is often the second most expensive purchase we make and on average the majority of us spend around an hour each day in our vehicles. Therefore it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that UK motorists hold their cars in such high regard.”
