Nine nabbed for dodgy disabled sign

Even the most comprehensive car insurance policy has no chance of rescuing a legal worker, an accountant and a string of bank employees from prosecution by Birmingham magistrates after the workers were caught misusing disabled parking permits.

They were rumbled by city council staff, who noticed that most of those using the permits, one of which belonged to a pensioner, worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) - which last week announced bumper staff bonuses of £1.6 billion.

Magistrates heard that one of those caught was a senior associate at RBS. Others nabbed included an advisor to the bank, a clerk and a mortgage consultant.

Three appeared at court to plead guilty, eight by a letter. A ninth person was convicted in absentia.
