More drivers are planning to buy off-road 4x4 vehicles, after the glacial conditions led to weeks of travel misery across the country.
According to data from website Compucars, as many as 18% of motorists are showing interest in purchasing a 4x4 this year - hoping that the sturdy vehicles will protect both themselves and their car insurance policy.
Only 5% said that they are thinking of going for a small car - such as an Audi TT, a Mini or a Ford Ka, almost 15% are eyeing at a compact executive car such as the BMW 3 Series.
The website also found that some 13% of motorists are intending to buy a lower medium-sector vehicle such as the Volkswagen Golf, while 11% think that they could buy an upper medium-sector car such as the Ford Mondeo.
Compucars group marketing manager Rob Queen said: "It is no surprise that 4x4s are the most popular choice for motorists searching for their next car, given the dreadful winter driving conditions that UK motorists have been faced with during the past few weeks.
"In fact, the number of 4x4s viewed on Compucars rose 9.3% in December versus searches in November."
