Four injured in flight turbulence

Passengers and crew flying from Ohio to New York suffered the effects of severe turbulence, with four people injured and two needing hospital treatment.

The hazardous conditions happened on a Continental Airlines flight on Saturday afternoon.

Julie King, a spokeswoman for Continental Airlines, said flight number 2768 from Cleveland started to experience severe turbulence as it approached Albany.

Medics met the plane when it landed shortly before 2pm, after the crew called for assistance. Two people were treated at the scene and released, while two others, including a flight attendant, were taken to hospital for further evaluation.

A spokesman for Albany International Airport, Doug Myers, told the Albany Times-Union that a flight attendant and a passenger "struck their heads on the ceiling" and landed on the floor.

Accidents such as this are of course unexpected, but can have a real impact on a holiday, highlighting the need for travel insurance offering cover in these circumstances.
