Insurers are working closely with home owners to ensure they are kept up to date about their home insurance claims following last year’s floods, the Government has announced.
And the Association of British Insurers said that families who were still in temporary accommodation were being given reassurances about when they could expect to return to their homes.
John Healey, the Floods Recovery Minister, said that by the first anniversary of last summer’s floods, everyone who’d submitted an insurance claim would receive a progress report - and would also be informed of a likely date for their return home.
"A huge amount has been achieved since last summer's floods with thousands of those affected back in their own homes. But I am well aware that this is little consolation to those who are not. That is why I am working closely with the home insurance industry to pull out all the stops," Mr Healey said.
Stephen Haddrill, Director General of the Association of British Insurers, added: "Insurers arranged for temporary accommodation for over 17,000 customers following last summer's terrible floods. Getting the very small number still in temporary accommodation back in their homes as soon as possible is their top priority".
