Drivers urged to shop around for deals

Car insurance customers are being urged to look around for the most competitive deal they can find when it comes to finding cover for themselves and their family.

The advice comes from British Insurance Brokers' Association at a time when the cost of motoring is on the increase and drivers are looking to find savings where they can.

The AA recently published the results of a survey which found that the average car insurance premium has risen by around 6% in the past year to £628.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the BIBA said that a variety of factors can play a part in the final cost of a car insurance policy.

"Don't just accept it on the chin. You might have hit a certain age or your car might be one year older, which gets you an extra discount," he suggests.

Mr Trudgill also urged potential customers to think about looking beyond their current provider as another may be able to provide them with a better deal.
