Drivers unfazed by Beckham's pants

Back

David Beckham in his pants is less distracting to drivers than the British countryside, according to a survey.

The advert for Armani, which featured the AC Milan and England footballer and left little to the imagination, came ninth in the poll of driver distractions, after flocks of birds, beauty spots and shop window displays.

Attractive women, heritage sites like Stonehenge and scenic views of The Yorkshire Dales took the top three spots.

Two-thirds of male drivers name the opposite sex as the greatest distraction. In comparison, just 3% of women drivers say they're diverted by a nice-looking man on the pavement.

Mike Quinton from Zurich Connect, who commissioned the survey, said: "Surprisingly, the Yorkshire Dales beat David Beckham's pants hands down as roadside eye candy.

"We can only conclude that drivers passing through stunning landscapes need to be especially vigilant if they want to avoid becoming part of the scenery."

Overall the Top 10 distractions for motorists are:

  1. Attractive women
  2. Stonehenge (and other heritage sites)
  3. The Yorkshire Dales (and other scenic views)
  4. Flocks of birds
  5. Angel of the North (and other art installations)
  6. Ferraris and other supercars
  7. Shop window displays
  8. Attractive men
  9. The David Beckham advert for Armani
  10. Roadside graffiti
