Drivers 'ripped off' by garages

Nearly half of motorists are not satisfied with the bill handed to them by their local garages, a survey has revealed.

Data from consumer group Motor Codes show almost 50% of drivers feel they have been "ripped off" for repair bills, with one in four believing they paid £150 over the odds.

Younger drivers, in particular, feel the most hard done by, the survey of more than 1,000 adults revealed.

Drivers over the age of 55 were the most satisfied with the service they received, but two out of five people under the age of 24 said they felt they had been ripped off at some point.

Chris Mason, director of Motor Codes, said: "Despite there being many very good garages, the public's bad experiences with some has brought about a lack of trust."
