Drivers list top 10 roads to hell

Back

Motorists have voted for their top 10 most challenging roads, with Spaghetti Junction in the West Midlands coming out top of the charts as the hardest to navigate.

The poll by Airwaves chewing gum found that Birmingham's most famous landmark comfortably beat all other contenders to the title, with its closest rival the A40 between London and Oxford.

Criteria which roads had to meet to be considered "challenging" included poor weather conditions and "other drivers", as well as bad visibility and heavy traffic.

Hard-to-navigate roads can be a headache for drivers as they increase the risk of minor bumps and more serious accidents, forcing motorists to make time-consuming claims on their car insurance policies.

To keep car insurance claims to a minimum, drivers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys, take account of weather conditions and adjust their driving accordingly, and pay attention to other road users.

Other roads which made the top five of the survey were the A166 York-Driffield route, the A726 from Paisley to Glasgow in Scotland, and the
A57 Snake Pass between Manchester and Sheffield.
