Drivers in fronting insurance scam

Back

Research has shown that 20% of motorists in the UK are taking part in an insurance scam called fronting.

Fronting sees people registering as the named driver when another person is the main user of the vehicle, Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) said.

The misleading scam is often carried out by parents registering as the main driver of their child's car in a bid to shave pounds of the insurance premiums.

However, the MIB warned people with fronted policies that they're committing fraud. It also said that they risk invalidating their insurance if involved in an an accident.

Ashton West, Chief Executive of MIB said: "In the event that the driver of a fronted policy is involved in an accident, both the policyholder and the driver could be open to additional costs, penalties, fines and - potentially - prosecution. It simply isn't worth the risk."
