Motorists are missing out on big savings by not negotiating on car purchases and failing to shop around on insurance deals, a study has revealed.
An esure survey showed that nearly a third of motorists polled would not haggle on their next purchase and eight per cent would not get an insurance quote before choosing a car. Another 16% said they would not find out the car's insurance group. The two pieces of insurance advice could add a lot to a new car's running costs.
With one in 25 drivers polled planning to buy a new "10" plate car from March 1, failing to negotiate and check financing and insurance costs could leave them greatly out of pocket.
"Motorists should spend a little extra time doing their homework beforehand to make sure they get a good deal," said Mike Pickard, Head of Risk and Underwriting at esure car insurance.
