People planning to do extensive DIY this Bank Holiday are risking injuries and damage by trying to do tasks that should be done by professionals to save cash.
A study from FindaProperty.com reveals that 68% of those planning to do work will do electricals and wiring, 23 per cent will try plumbing and 7% are even going to work on a roof. Around 11 per cent of those asked have already suffered an injury while undertaking DIY, which has led to fears that there'll be a number of disasters.
People doing any ambitious DIY projects have been urged to check with their home insurance provider beforehand to see what the potential costs could be if things don't go to plan.
The survey studied over 1,000 responses and it revealed that 43% would choose to do it just to save money, not because they enjoy doing DIY.
Michael O'Flynn, Director of FindaProperty.com, said: "Improving your home yourself can still be a great way to add value as well as making it a more pleasant place to live, but amateur DIY enthusiasts should bear in mind that a botched job could actually detract value from a property."
