4x4 takes the double at awards

Motorists looking for cheaper car insurance should look no further than Toyota’s Land Cruiser V8 after it became the first 4x4 to receive top honours in both categories at the British Insurance Car Security Awards.

The V8 achieved the maximum five stars not only in the “theft of” section but also the “theft from” category of the New Vehicle Security Ratings (NVSR).

Toyota’s security system was developed in conjunction with leading automotive technology consultants SBS.

SBD’s security and cost of ownership specialist, Paul MacSweeney, accepted the award on behalf of Toyota.

The awards, developed by the Automobile Association, the Department of Transport and the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre at Thatcham aim to raise public awareness of vehicle security.

Miguel Fonseca, managing director of Toyota (GB), said: “We are delighted to receive this award, and recognise the valuable support provided by SBD’s security team in ensuring that Toyota vehicles remain in the forefront in the fight against vehicle crime”.

Other winners included Mini in the city car category and the Citroen C4 Exclusive in the small family car section.

Xavier Duchemin, managing director of Citroen UK, said: “We are dedicated to developing security technology so that our customers not only benefit from owning an award-winning, reassuringly secure vehicle, but also save money with ultra-low car insurance ratings.”
