Hundreds of motorists filled their car tanks up for as little as 20 pounds after a faulty pump at a Tesco petrol station began to dispense fuel at just 40p a litre.
Queues of traffic were seen around the forecourt in Milton, Cambridgeshire, as members of the public caught wind of the bargain price.
Staff only noticed the glitch after hearing a customer discussing it on local radio - a full six days after it was first noticed by eagle-eyed drivers.
Motorists with a 50-litre tank were filling up for 20 pounds instead of the usual 107p-a-litre price of 54 pounds until an engineer fixed the problem.
A Tesco spokesman said: "This was a technical fault at the pump and an engineer has now rectified the problem. Although we always aim to keep prices down at the pumps, unfortunately, we could not maintain this price indefinitely."
