Watch out - it's wasp week!

Back

With the last week in July a period when wasps are at their most prevalent according to a study out today[1], Sheilas' Wheels has discovered that a third[2] of UK homeowners (33 per cent) would become DIY-pest controllers if they found a wasp or hornet's nest on their property rather than bringing in the professionals.

Tackling a wasp or hornet's nest without the right training and equipment can be dangerous and may highlight that the charges associated with calling out a pest specialist could be encouraging homeowners to attempt to save money and remove the problem themselves. In fact, removing a wasp or hornet nest can cost from £35 to £100[3].

Sheilas' Wheels pest cover[4] - which costs around £1.65 per month - can give homeowners peace of mind that a qualified pest controller will remove their ‘unwanted house guests' quickly and at no additional cost. The service includes:

A speedy response - a 24-hour helpline to report the pest problem and gain advice or reassurance.

Qualified pest specialists - Sheilas' Wheels network of pest controllers are all vetted, audited, fully qualified and professionally trained.

Expert advice to avoid infestations - practical guidance given when handling the infestation to help prevent future pest problems.

Jacky Brown, spokeswoman for Sheilas' Wheels home insurance, said:  "It's that time of year again when wasps and hornet's nests become a nuisance to homeowners across the UK. With some nests housing colonies of hundreds of stinging insects, DIY nest removal should never be attempted by the untrained.

Sheilas' Wheels pest cover offers peace of mind to homeowners that they can receive a fast, professional and reliable pest control service at a low cost. With no regulation in the pest control industry, the risk of calling-out 'cowboy' pest controllers and then being faced with a hefty bill would also be avoided."
