Young drivers: insurance tips

Unfortunately it is a sad fact that young drivers insurance tends to be more expensive because young drivers take more risks and generally have more accidents. Can young drivers get cheap car insurance? Here are some things to think about:

There are lots of ways you can keep the cost of insurance for young drivers down. You might decide to take Third Party Fire and Theft cover instead of Fully Comprehensive cover. This means that if you have an accident that is your fault, your insurance will only cover the other party's costs – not any damage to your car. Because it doesn’t cover you for so much, the premiums are much lower. If you are looking for Third Party Fire and Theft it is worth noting that Sheilas' Wheels do not offer this type of cover.

You may also reduce your premium by deciding to take on a higher excess – agreeing to pay more at the start of any claim – another good way to reduce payments as long as you are able to cover a higher excess payment, should you have an accident.

Of course, the car you drive also has a big effect on the cost of insurance for young drivers. Choose a car from insurance Group 1 – typically a small-engined car – and you usually pay a lot less for young drivers' car insurance than you would for a sports car or a hot hatch.

Sheilas’ Wheels doesn’t insure anyone under 18. If you’re 17 and have just passed your test – sorry girl – come and visit us next year.
