Travel insurance

Once you’ve taken care of the car, you should also think about protecting you, the kids and your belongings while you’re abroad. Travel Insurance will cover things like medical expenses if you or your family fall ill or had an accident abroad. It should also covers things like loss of luggage, personal belongings, your passport and travel money up to certain limits.

It’s also worth applying to the Post Office for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). It entitles you and your family to free medical treatment in EU countries which have a reciprocal agreement with the UK.

However, this will not cover all your medical expenses, nor the cost of getting you home if necessary. So, even with an EHIC we still recommend that you buy travel insurance otherwise the bills can soon mount up.
