Insuring your car

All UK motor insurance policies are obliged to provide the minimum cover required by law in all European Union countries. But this will usually be Third Party Only cover so it won’t cover damage or loss of your car – or the cost of getting it home. Nor will it cover things like medical bills or hospital expenses if you are involved in an accident and need medical treatment.

Also bear in mind that most insurers will only cover you for a limited amount of time. Before you drive abroad, it pays to check with your insurer so you understand exactly what you’re covered for. You can also request your insurer to extend the level of cover for the duration of your trip.
