  1. Introduction

We recognise our responsibility to treat the information we obtain about you with care. Please take a few minutes to read this section carefully as it contains important information relating to the details that you've given or should give to us. It explains how we may use your details and tells you about the systems we have in place that allow us to detect and prevent fraudulent applications and claims. The savings that we make help us to keep our premiums low. You should show this notice to anyone covered under your insurance policy.

We use personal information about you:

    1. to provide you with a quote
    2. to administer your policy if you buy
    3. to maintain and improve the services we provide to you, and
    4. to research and tell you about other products and services.

Some of the personal information we ask you to provide may be sensitive. For example, with car insurance, you may have to give us information about your physical health and the physical health of other people who'll be insured to drive your car. We also need to know about any motoring offences that you and other people who'll be insured to drive your car may have.

We will use your data for statistical analysis and in the administration of your policy if you decide to buy.

  2. Fraud prevention and detection

To keep our premiums as low as possible, we participate in a number of insurance industry initiatives to prevent and detect crime. As a valued customer, we think you'll appreciate the steps we're taking to provide the best insurance cover.

To prevent and detect fraud we may at any time:

    1. share information about you and your claim with other organisations and public bodies including the police
    2. check and/or file your details with fraud prevention agencies and databases. If you give false or inaccurate information and we identify fraud, we'll record this. We and other organisations may also use and search these agencies and databases from the UK and other countries to:
      1. help make decisions about the provision and administration of insurance, credit and related services for you and members of your household
      2. trace debtors or beneficiaries, recover debt, prevent fraud, and to manage your accounts or insurance policies; or
      3. check your identity to prevent money laundering, unless you give us other satisfactory proof of identity
      4. check details of job applicants and employees
    3. Undertake credit searches and additional fraud searches.

If you would like to receive further details of the databases we access or contribute to, please write to the Data Protection Officer, Sheilas' Wheels, The Observatory, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0SG or email us at DPO@sheilaswheels.com
To prevent fraud and to ensure that any payments or refunds can be paid to you, we keep your credit/debit card details for the duration of your policy. By providing your details, you consent to us doing this.

  3. Car Insurance

If you take out a Sheilas' Wheels car insurance policy, your policy details will be:

    1. Added to the Motor Insurance Database (MID), run by the Motor Insurers' Information Centre (MIIC). MID data may be used by the DVLA and DVLNI for the purpose of Electronic Vehicle Licensing and by the police for the purposes of establishing whether a driver's use of the vehicle is likely to be covered by a motor insurance policy and/or for preventing and detecting crime. If you're involved in an accident (in the UK or abroad), other UK insurers, the Motor Insurer's Bureau and MIIC may search the MID to obtain relevant policy information. Persons pursuing a claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID. You can find out more about this at www.miic.org.uk
    2. Passed to Green Flag if you choose breakdown cover with your car insurance. Green Flag breakdown assistance is underwritten by UKI Insurance Limited

  4. Claims

Under the conditions of your policy you must tell us about any insurance related incidents (such as fire, water damage, theft or an accident) whether or not they will give rise to a claim. When you tell us about an incident we'll pass information relating to it to a database. We may search these databases when you apply for insurance, in the event of any incident or claim, or at renewal to validate your claims history or that of any other person or property likely to be involved in the policy or claim.

If you make a claim we may need to give information about you and your policy to other people such as suppliers, investigators and loss adjusters. They'll only use the information to help us with your claim.

If you do not wish to renew your policy, you should tell us before your renewal date. 14. Don't leave a computer unattended while using it

If someone uses the computer in your absence while you have personal information in a web browser session, they may be able to access this information. Consider locking the computer, closing the browser or both.

    top

  15. Clear the browser's cache and history

Internet browsers keep a cache, containing a copy of the web pages you have visited, and this cache is often stored on the computer's local hard drive. Clearing the cache, or temporary internet files, is straightforward, and will help prevent subsequent computer users from viewing the sites you visited while you were online. See your browser's help regarding ‘temporary internet files’ or ‘private data’ for details on how to clear the cache, or ask your PC administrator.

Browsers also keep a record of the sites that you have recently visited, known as a history, and this should also be cleared when you have finished. You can usually do this via your browser’s 'Internet options' or 'Tools' menu, or by selecting 'clear private data' or 'clear history'.

  16. Don't save passwords

Most web browsers will offer to save passwords for you. You should not use this feature on a shared computer, as it may allow other users of this computer to access your data.
