What should I do if I add the wrong fuel to my car?
Firstly, do not start or drive the vehicle as additional damage to your engine can occur. Simply call 0800 032 9092 and a Green Flag representative will be out to assist you.

Is there an excess to pay?
No, there is no excess to pay under this benefit.

Will my cover start immediately?
New policy:
Cover will start 48 hours after purchase, or on the start date agreed if this is longer than 48 hours after purchase.
Policy renewal:
If you are renewing a policy which already includes our Misfuelling Cover then cover will be in effect once your policy has renewed.

Is this a 24 hour service?
Green Flag representatives are available 24 hours a day. You and your vehicle will be taken to the nearest suitable garage within the Green Flag network, where the necessary work will be carried out. If they are not able to fix your car on the same day then you can receive a hire car or overnight hotel accommodation subject to policy limits. In a limited number of cases they may be able to fix your car on the roadside.

How many incidents per policy can I claim for?
There is a limit of 2 incidents in any one period of cover up to a limit of £1500 per claim. Please refer to your Policy Booklet for full terms and conditions and policy limits.

Is the damage to my car covered?
No, this additioal benefit covers the replacement of the fuel only. If damage to the engine or component parts has occurred then this would be subject to a full Accidental Damage claim under your Motor policy, with the standard excesses applying. Call our claims team on 0845 604 3570 to register your claim.

Does this policy cover any contamination?
No, only a claim arising by filling the fuel tank with inappropriate fuel is covered.

Am I covered abroad for misfuelling?
This cover is only available in the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.

What if my car has manufacturer's misfuelling protection already?
A limited number of the newest models, made by only a small number of car manufacturers, do make it more difficult to put the wrong fuel into your car, although this may not be 100% foolproof. If your car is one of the limited number of models with such protection, you may feel that you don’t need our Misfuelling Cover.

What if I’ve bought a misfuelling protection device already?
There are devices you can buy which are marketed as making it more difficult to put the wrong fuel into your car - we don’t make them so we don’t know if they’re 100% foolproof. If you’ve bought such a device, and you feel that you don’t need our Misfuelling Cover, that’s entirely up to you.

What happens if I change my mind about this cover?
Subject to no incidents arising that may lead to a claim, you have 14 days cooling off period in which to cancel your policy and obtain a full refund, less and administration fee. Our fees are detailed in your Schedule.

Am I covered for misfuelling under my motor policy?
If you misfuel your car and your engine is damaged as a result, you can make a claim under your Motor Policy for the damage. This will affect your No Claim Discount and you will need to pay your excess. This can only be done once the damage to your engine has been confirmed.
The costs involved with draining and cleaning your fuel tank and transporting your vehicle (if necessary) is not covered under your Motor Policy, it is covered under our Misfuelling Cover.

Am I covered for Misfuelling on any car?
No, this cover only applies to the vehicle you insure with us. If you insure more than one vehicle with us, you would need to purchase separate Misfuelling Cover for each vehicle insured.
If you want Misfuelling Cover for any of your other vehicles, they would need to be insured with us, and this cover would then need to be purchased additionally under that policy.
